Promoting awareness on the harm of marine plastic pollution
“We see the possibilities to make what’s best for the athlete better for the plant. So we’re creating products with recycled materials, making products to be remade and developing products made with nature. We want the world to see the possibilities and take action to help end plastic waste, so we always have places to play.”– adidas-Group.
Adidas is a manufacturer of athletic shoes, apparel and sporting goods. Everything they do is rooted in sport. Sport plays an increasingly important role in more and more people’s lives, on and off the field of play. It is central to every culture and society and is core to our health and happiness. Their purpose states that ‘through sport, we have the power to change lives’. This guides the way they run their company, how they work with partners, how they create products, and how they engage with their consumers. “We will always strive to expand the limits of human possibilities, to include and unite people in sport, and to create a more sustainable world”
Adidas is on a mission to be the best sports brand in the world. Every day, they come to work to create and sell the best sports products in the world, and to offer the best service and consumer experience - and to do it all in a sustainable way. They are the best when they are the credible, inclusive, and sustainable leader in their industry.
Adidas wants to educate consumers about sustainability. “It has been a central advocacy of the brand, globally, for the past few years”, said Anthony Frangos, general manager of adidas Philippines – and one that is particularly resonant for the Philippines. Frangos said, The partnership between The Plaf and Adidas aims to promote awareness on the harm of marine plastic pollution, by contributing to recycling initiatives in the country. A collaborative project that will achieve the goals of plastic waste recovery that complements the waste diversion and sustainability efforts of Adidas.
In May 2022, Adidas launched its Run for the Oceans campaign to further its commitment to help end plastic waste in the Philippines. Adidas invited Filipinos to run, walk, cycle, hike or even kick goals to help end the problem with marine plastic pollution. For every 10 minutes of running recorded via the adidas Running app, Parley will clean up the equivalent weight of one plastic bottle from beaches, remote islands, and coastlines before it reaches the ocean (up to a maximum of 250,000kg) in which The Plastic Flamingo will recycle into eco-friendly building materials. The Plastic Flamingo team participated and ran around Fort Bonifacio Global City, then gave a talk on the different ways to address the marine plastic pollution crisis which was attended by the community of the adidas Runners Manila
Adidas is one of the 250+ collection points of The Plastic Flamingo, accepting all types of clean plastic waste at the Brand Center in Ayala Malls Glorietta 3, Makati City, Metro Manila. For more information on how to drop-off , click here.
